Arsenal miss out on Lucho Gonzalez

The Gunners have made an approach for Argentinian attacking midfielder Lucho Gonzales from Marseille; but a deal fell through as Arsene Wenger only wanted to sign Lucho on a loan deal.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • The Argentine 30 year old had been lined up as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas, but a deal fell through as Arsene Wenger only offers 1 year contracts to any player over the age of 30, a problem for Lucho who still has a reported 3 years left on his Marseille deal.

Marseille boss Didier Deschamps confirmed the Gunners made an approach: "I spoke to him and the one that really interests them is Lucho Gonzalez.

"Arsene Wenger believes that it is a great player who could be useful to his team even though he does not fit in with his recruitment policy.

"He wanted him on loan but it was not acceptable to us, there are no negotiations."
