Arsenal turn attentions to Toby Alderweireld

22 August 2011 - 22:12

Arsenal have contacted Ajax regarding the availability of young Belgian international defender Toby Alderweireld. The player has been recommended by fellow countryman, and former teammate at Ajax, Thomas Vermaelen.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • According to reports, Arsene Wenger has had scouts monitor Alderweireld for over a year and is suitably impressed.

However, the Gunners boss is only willing to offer 6m GBP, a lot less than Ajax are expected to demand for the centre back.

Alderweireld has been an important member of the first team at Ajax since 2009-2010, and already has 11 caps for Belgium despite competition for a first team spot in central defence.
