Redknapp backs Arsenal manager

Redknapp backs Arsenal manager

01 October 2011 - 06:32

Ahead of Sunday's North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has offered support for under fire Arsene Wenger, insisting that he is the right person to reverse Arsenal's fortunes.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • Redknapp led Tottenham to their first win away at Arsenal for 17 years last season at the Emirates, and some say that Tottenham are quickly catching up with the quality of their North London rivals.

Ahead of Sunday's crunch tie, Redknapp thinks that Wenger will be staying at the Emirates: "I don't ever see it happening. I don't see him going. It's not a possibility.

"He is a top manager. Look at his record. It's fantastic.

"To go through a season unbeaten - what an achievement.

"Lots of managers have bad times. They come in and then they never have good times. He is having a bit of a dip, but he will come out of that.

"The season has only just started. It certainly wouldn't help Arsenal [if he was sacked]. I don't think it's ever an issue that they would sack him but he is a top manager and they know they are well off."
