Adler may leave Leverkusen

Adler may leave Leverkusen

01 October 2011 - 07:23

Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Rene Adler could be on his way out of the club, with contract negotiations stalling.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Ajax, Estevao starts
  • Chelsea eyeing free transfer for Sergej Milikovic-Savic

  • The 26 year old shot stopper is currently injured and had to undergo a patellar tendon surgery in July, which will keep him out of action for six months.

According to Bild, the Leverkusen board are impressed by the performances of on-loan Stuttgart keeper Bernd Leno, and wish to sign him on a permanent basis.

"We want to keep him," Bayer Leverkusen CEO Wolfgang Holzhauser said to Bild.

Adler was offered a new three year contract last season with a €400000 annual pay rise. However, he rejected this deal and now is being offered only a one year extension with an increase of €200000 to his current €2.4 million contract.

It seems as if the board are willing to cash in on one of their stars, especially since Leno has a buy out clause of only €5 million.

Leno himself seems keen at staying beyond his loan term. He said, "I've read that [Stuttgart sporting director] Fredi Bobic said that I must come back. But Bayer [Leverkusen] play in the Champions League, Stuttgart don't. I can imagine staying here."
