Steve Bruce safe as Sunderland boss

Steve Bruce safe as Sunderland boss

05 October 2011 - 08:08

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce remains under pressure at the Stadium of Light, but has received backing from former chairman Niall Quinn.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • Quinn has stepped down as chairman of Sunderland this week but took a moment to back manager Bruce.

"Steve is not isolated by this - it's the exact opposite," Quinn said in the Daily Mail. "It's time for him to build a closer relationship with Ellis.

"Steve will get time for this team to gel. There's another window looming. Unless the situation becomes apocalyptic, and it's no good worrying about that, Steve will get time.

"For the overall good of the club this is right. I am happy, absolutely. Ellis is happy - he is speaking to the manager today. You'll find the manager will be happy tonight."
