Tottenham pull out of Cahill chase

17 October 2011 - 13:58

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has pulled out of the race to sign Bolton defender Gary Cahill, seemingly paving the way for Arsenal to agree a January move for the centre back.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd serious about signing Rafael Leao
  • Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Barcelona are all clubs linked with a move for the talented centre back, but Bolton have stood their ground so far and have not agreed a fee for the centre back yet. Cahill's current contract at the Reebok Stadium expires in the summer, and then the defender will be free to leave on a Bosman transfer.

But, Redknapp has revealed Tottenham will not pursue Cahill's services in January: "I'm not looking to strengthen in defence, really. We are strong in defence. We have Dawson, King, Gallas, Kaboul and Bassong.

"I went for Cahill because at the time I couldn't see Ledley being fit and because William Gallas had a calf strain."
