Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has revealed how at times during his six month injury layoff, he doubted whether he would ever play again.
Gerrard underwent surgery on his groin in April and complications delayed his return to first team action.
In his first match in the Liverpool starting line up, he scored a wonderful free kick against Manchester United on Saturday.
However, he revealed that after being injured for so long, he was unsure whether or not his playing days were over.
"It's only natural that you have doubts," he told the club's official magazine.
"Different things cross your mind from time to time.
"When I got the injury I knew it was going to be a serious one, something that I wasn't used to. I'll admit that I was down, as low as I've ever been as a footballer.
