Arsenal to scout Vargas

Arsenal to scout Vargas

19 October 2011 - 16:10

Arsenal are set to send a scouting team to Italy to judge the performance of Fiorentina's Juan Manuel Vargas so as to consider making a January bid.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The Peruvian's days at his club look to be limited, after a fall out with Fiorentina coach Sinisa Mihajlovic in which he was branded as "unprofessional". Reports claim that Mihaljovic blasted Vargas after he turned up late to training following a night spent drinking.

We talked about it when he returned from international duty and I left him out of the squad because he was unprofessional. The rules apply to him just like everyone else,’ said Mihajlovic.

‘We discovered the Friday before the Lazio game that he was out late. If I'd known earlier, he wouldn't have played against Lazio either.

‘We'll see how he behaves over the week. I need the real Vargas, not his less impressive brother.’

The Gunners scouts will monitor his performance in the game against Catania on Saturday. If impressed Arsene Wenger will make a move to sign him in January as he is looking to obtain cover for Gervinho, who will be away at the African Cup of Nations in January.
