Arsenal boss defends Arshavin purchase

Arsenal boss defends Arshavin purchase

22 October 2011 - 07:12

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has defended the form of Andrey Arshavin, and backed the Russian to be an important member of the first team this year.

  • Chelsea have held talks for Ayyoub Bouaddi
  • Chelsea want Newcastle star to replace Cucurella?
  • Arshavin impressed in last weekend's 2-1 win over Sunderland, and Wenger hit out at former Gunners' boss George Graham after he previously slated Arshavin signing for Arsenal.

"You would not be surprised that I disagree with that," said Wenger.

"I think he has been great for us and he will still be great in the coming months.

"He is a great player and you have to give him credit for that. He stands up for his performances. I personally respect him highly and I think he's a great player."
