Preview: Denmark vs. Spain

Preview: Denmark vs. Spain

13 October 2007 - 09:58

Many think that the winner of this game will be heading to Euro 2008, A win for Spain would still not guarantee qualification for themselves with Sweden, however, Denmark's hopes remain firmly in the balance with this tough home tie. Spain's attack will certainly miss David Villa and Fernando Torres.

  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town
  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal

  • Luis Aragonés' team have been far from convincing, but have maintained their pursuit thanks to grabbing some snapshot wins with late goals and one goal victories.

A win for Spain would see the Danes out of reach, over eight points ahead, however, Spain have a couple of tough games next against Northern Ireland and Sweden. Should Denmark win they will be only two points behind the Spanish and victory in midweek at home to Latvia could push them ahead.

    Injuries

Spain will miss Villa and Torres, and Luis Garcia and Raul Tamudo are likely to fill the void up front. Spain will employ a five man midfield with Fabregas coming in, but Carlos Puyol is likely to miss out through injury. Denmark will be without Lovenkrands, Martin Jorgensen and Daniel Agger, and late fitness tests will be given to a few others. However, a string of players return from suspension.

    Denmark 1-0 Spain

Spain travel to Denmark with no ambition of getting a big win today, as they employ a tough looking five man midfield. Denmark on the other hand will be keen to rescue their qualification hopes and a victory here will take them to within two points of the Spaniards and put them back on track. Spain will miss Villa and Torres, but, despite adequate cover, the Danes will hold out for the win.

    Prediction: 1-0 to Denmark

    Goalscorer: Morten Nordstrand
