Aston Villa will be hoping to avoid a 3rd consecutive league defeat, whilst under fire Steve Bruce looks for 3 points to push his side back into the top half of the Premier League table.

  • Many will be watching the seasonal striker Darren Bent closely today, as he prepares to take on his former club Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Expect a frosty reception for the England international as he returns to Sunderland.



    Meanwhile, Aston Villa will be hoping that Bent is at his very best today as the Villains look to reverse a disappointing three defeats in a row with a win on Wearside.



    Both teams have endured rather disappointing spells in the Premier League this year, so it is a critical match for both sides.

    Sunderland beat Aston Villa at home and away last season, and in recent years the form has slowly changed in favour of the Black Cats.



    Sunderland will look to pull away from the Premier League's relegation zone with victory today.

    David Meyler could return for Sunderland, and the Black Cats have a full squad to choose from.



    Darren Bent could return to to take on his former side for the first time at the Stadium of Light.



    Chris Herd is available after appealing his red card last weekend.



    Barry Bannan is suspended by the club after they investigate his car crash during midweek, and Jermaine Jenas could be in line to make his debut as a replacement.
