Fulham pile pressure on Roberto Martinez

29 October 2011 - 16:38

Fulham manager Martin Jol can tonight breathe a sigh of relief, as his side bravely battled to a 2-0 victory at Wigan this afternoon. Goals from Clint Dempsey and Moussa Dembele ensured the 3 points would go back to London.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd serious about signing Rafael Leao
  • Both managers were under some pressure prior to this game, such was the importance of a victory for both managers.

Wigan actually dominated most of this game, and Mark Schwarzer had to be at his best in the Fulham goal. The woodwork would also prevent Victor Moses and Maynor Figueroa from opening the scoring.

Wigan actually dominated the first 40 minutes, but it would be Fulham who scored first.

Bobby Zamora found space on the left flank to cross for Clint Dempsey to open the scoring, entirely against the run of play.

After the break, Fulham came out with renewed vigour, desperate to secure the 3 points.

With just 10 minutes remaining, Moussa Dembele would wrap up the points with a powerful finish past Al-Habsi in the Wigan goal.

A win for Fulham now sees them move up to 15th, whilst Wigan are on a horror run of 8 consecutive defeats.
