FA plan to appeal Rooney ban

FA plan to appeal Rooney ban

05 November 2011 - 05:16

The Football Association are planning to appeal a ban imposed on Wayne Rooney. The Man Utd striker will miss the opening three games of Euro 2012 through suspension.

  • Chelsea set to hold talks with £22m winger
  • Chelsea set for contract talks with £26m star

  • During the qualifying game with Montengro, Wayne Rooney kicked out at a rival player and was immediately sent off.

After the game, UEFA decided to punish Rooney severely and the United man will be banned for the opening three games of the tournament, all of the group stage games.

But the FA are ready to appeal the decision:

"We will be appealing against the three-match suspension Wayne Rooney received following the recent Euro 2012 qualifier in Montenegro," said an FA spokesman.

"We received written reasons for the red card on Tuesday afternoon and we were given until midnight tonight to respond."
