Wigan boss Martinez eyes continued form

Wigan boss Martinez eyes continued form

28 November 2011 - 07:55

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez wants his side to build on their recent improved form, and work their way up the Premier League table. Wigan defeated Sunderland last weekend and pressure continues to mount on Sunderland manager Steve Bruce.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Martinez's side have not enjoyed the best of starts to their Premier League campaign, and have generally sat rooted to the bottom of the table.

But a win over Sunderland could be the perfect tonic for the Latics, who Martinez now hopes will go from strength to strength.

The Spanish manager said: "I can tell you all these things, but if we keep playing well and losing games, it's difficult to create that momentum.

"I just feel that in the last two weeks, the team has played without the fear we have shown before, without the feeling of having something to lose after having a chain of defeats.

"I am extremely, extremely proud. This group of players has matured so much in the last few weeks. They are characters that everybody should be very proud to have at Wigan."
