Rooney ban reduced to 2 games

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will be delighted to hear that after an appeal, UEFA have overturned a 3 match ban for Euro 2012, and adjusted the forward's suspension to two games.

  • United's frontman was sent off in the Euro 2012 qualification game against Montengro for kicking out at opponent Miodrag Dzudovic.<br />

    With the help of Dzudovic, who defended the striker after the incident; Rooney presented a case at the appeal and the striker successfully saw his 3 match ban reduced.<br />

    Rooney attended the appeal with England manager Fabio Capello, as the United man happened to be in Switzerland after seeing his club out of Champions League last night to Basel.<br />

    Adrian Bevington, the FA communications director, admitted he was delighted with the outcome: <br />

     "We've had a very fair hearing. Wayne and Fabio are both very pleased. Wayne will head back to Manchester as a matter of priority.Wayne has always made clear that he accepted it was a red card offence."
