Modibo Maiga's on off transfer from Sochaux to Newcastle looks to be dead in the water, according to the player's agent. The Geordies had hoped to sign Maiga in the last transfer window, but a deal could not be completed before the deadline.
Newcastle were ready to make a second attempt to bring the talented striker to St. James' Park come January, but Sochaux's enormous 11m GBP valuation has scared off Alan Pardew, who has now turned his attentions to Wolves' striker Kevin Doyle.
Maiga could instead make a move to French giants Lyon, who are now readying an offer for the Malian forward.
