Swansea to complete Gylfi Sigurdsson deal

02 January 2012 - 06:43

Swansea City will announce the loan capture of Iceland international Gylfi Sigurdsson  this week. The talented midfielder is very highly rated but has fallen out of favour at Bundesliga club Hoffenheim.

  • Martin Keown praises complete Arsenal star after Bournemouth win

  • Sigurdsson will return to England, where he has previously spent 3 years with Reading, and will link up with Brendan Rogers on January 5th.

Swansea also have the option to make the deal permanent in the summer, should the Welsh side retain Premier League status and the player impresses during his loan spell.

"I'm really pleased that agreement has been reached between the teams and it can be said that the dream is true for me to get into the Premier League," Sigurdsson said.

"'I first heard of interested Swansea when I came home to Christmas and the last few days have been ongoing negotiations between Hoffenheim and Swansea and today reached agreement between them.

"I follow very closely the Premiership and I have both seen and heard to Swansea play good football. It does not surprise me because I played under manager Brendan Rodgers at Reading and he wants his team plays the ball from the last man."
