Borussia Dortmund complete Marco Reus deal

Borussia Dortmund complete Marco Reus deal

04 January 2012 - 21:35

Borussia Dortmund have officially completed a move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Marco Reus, in a deal believed to be worth around 12.5m GBP. Reus has been recently linked with a move to Manchester City, but has decided to stay in his homeland with Gladbach.

  • Reus is widely regarded to be one of the finest young creative midfielders in Europe, and has consistently shown in the Bundesliga that he is a fantastic talent.

Often compared with international team mate Mario Goetze, now Reus has the opportunity to link up with Goetze next summer in the same team. However, Dortmund's move for Reus appears to suggest that Goetze could leave Dortmund next year, with Arsenal widely believed to be his preferred destination.

"To me it is important to clarify that this is not a decision against Gladbach. I have had a wonderful time here," Reus said in an official statement.

"Borussia have given me the chance to prove myself in the Bundesliga and to develop into the player I am today.

"But I've decided that in the coming season, I'll take the next step and play for a club that contends for the championship and gives me the guarantee to play in the Champions League. This is an opportunity I see in Dortmund."
