Everton unable to spend Arteta cash

11 January 2012 - 07:53

Everton coach David Moyes admitted that the funds received from Arsenal for the sale of Mikel Arteta will not be available for spending in the January transfer window. Moyes admitted that these have been used to pay off debt.

  • Chelsea suffer double injury blow ahead of Villa trip
  • Gabriel Magalhaes to sign new Arsenal deal

  • “I think everybody knew at the time that the bank wanted the money. People knew that really," said Moyes.

Cesc Fabregas' departure from Arsenal to Barcelona saw the Gunners scouring Europe to find a replacement for the Spaniard, and the Gunners eventually turned to Mikel Arteta.

It seems that Everton will have no money to spend in the January transfer window though, and instead will be looking to sign players on loan deals. The latest name to have been linked with a move to Goodison Park is Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Sunderland midfielder David Meyler.
