Chelsea manager backs misfiring Fernando Torres

Chelsea manager backs misfiring Fernando Torres

01 February 2012 - 13:18

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas offered his backing for Spanish striker Fernando Torres last night, after yet another miserable evening for the former Liverpool frontman last night in the 1-1 draw with Swansea City.

 • Enzo Fernandez wants to leave Chelsea
 • Man Utd can finally sign Ederson for huge bargain fee
 • The misfiring striker has now gone over 1,000 minutes without a goal in the Premier League, and his lack of goals had even sparked speculation that the striker would be heading for a surprise exit this month.
But manager Villas-Boas remains hopeful Torres will eventually resolve his goalscoring problems, and prove to be an astute buy for the Blues.
Villas-Boas commented: "The two players [Drogba and Torres] are competing for the striking position and we all know the significance of Didier to this team and his record. We will have to see how tired he is when he comes back to us but no one can doubt his ambition to win trophies for us this season. With Torres, the situation does not change. We still believe in the player but he is taking his time."
