Chelsea defender Cahill admits foul

Chelsea defender Cahill admits foul

06 February 2012 - 13:36

Chelsea's debutant defender Gary Cahill admitted today that he was lucky to get away with the foul on Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck. Sir Alex Ferguson was left fuming at the assistant referee.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • The match finished 3-3, but United could have very easily have won all three points after Cahill's challenge in the 10th minute yesterday.

"I thought the contact was outside the box, and at the time I thought I had got the bottom of my studs on the ball," said Cahill.

"I have seen the replay and sometimes when you go through the player and across the player to get the ball they are given against you, so I was fortunate to get away with that one but if you see the direction the ball moves I think my studs actually touched it first."
