Guus Hiddink takes Anzhi job

18 February 2012 - 05:33

Guus Hiddink has been announced as the new manager of Anzhi Makhachkala. The Dutch coach has signed a contract until the end of the 2012-2013 season, ending talk of a move to Russia for Fabio Capello.

  • Hiddink has been linked with a number of jobs across Europe, including that of the vacant England manager's job.

But finally it appears that Anzhi have won the race to sign Hiddink, who last coached the Turkish national team.

"At the end of last year, we had long discussions on Anzhi and that's why now I made a prompt decision," said Hiddink.

"The most significant thing for me is that the club is building plans on football development in the republic. It's as much important as the sports result of the first team and I'm going to pay special attention to this direction.

"We spoke much with [owner] Suleyman Kerimov about this after which I realized what a huge project I was invited to."
