Scott Parker eyes England armband

01 March 2012 - 08:49

Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker yesterday captained England for the first time in the 3-2 defeat to the Netherlands, and the player has now admitted that he would like to keep the armband for the Euro 2012 tournament.

  • Chelsea star wins PFA Young Player of the Year award
  • Chelsea midfielder won't join Premier League rivals

  • Scott Parker has enjoyed a successful first season at White Hart Lane, and since John Terry lost his captaincy and Rio Ferdinand seemingly rejected taking the armband, Parker has stepped in.

Parker is hoping to keep the armband for the summer showpiece event: "Of course I would (like to keep the armband).

"I also understand there's a many a player - no-one more than Steven Gerrard and a couple of others - who've obviously been there before and done it.

"It's going to be difficult for me but I would obviously relish the chance to lead the country out again and take it into the Euros.

"Whether that's me or it's not me, I know I'll be fully behind whoever it may be, determined to make England succeed."
