Guardiola gives up Barcelona title race

22 April 2012 - 04:49

Pep Guardiola last night gave up his team's chase for a fourth successive La Liga title, as he congratulated rivals Real Madrid for their 2-1 win over Barcelona at the Nou Camp yesterday.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • A late Cristiano Ronaldo goal would be enough to secure a stunning victory for Real.

"I congratulate Real Madrid for their victory and also for their league title which I have no doubt they have clinched tonight," said Guardiola.

"We played a good match, but it wasn't good enough. We played the kind of game that we needed to play but we just couldn't do it.

"I selected the team which I thought had the best chance to defeat Madrid and, anyway, the losers are always wrong."
