It was a case of unhappy return to Istanbul for Liverpool as Bobo scored a late goal on Wednesday night to help Besiktas beat Liverpool 2-1 in Group A of the Champions League. Liverpool are now seated at the bottom of the group on only one point.

  • Besiktas had taken the lead in the in the 13th when Serdar Ozkan's shot was deflected into the net by Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia for an own-goal.



    Bobo met captain Ibrahim Uzulmez's through ball outside the box in the 81st minute, drove in and beat Reina to put the hosts ahead 2-0.



    Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard got one back for the visitors in the 85th. The England midfielder sent a diving header into the net as Besiktas' defensive line failed to stop the ball.



    Besiktas is in third place in the group with three points, while Liverpool is last with one point. Marseille, which drew 1-1 with FC Porto, leads the group with seven points, two more than Porto.
