Liverpool have been in contact with Wigan chairman Dave Whelan regarding the future of Irish young midfielder James McCarthy. The centre midfielder is set to quit the Latics at the end of the season.

    Since arriving at Wigan from Hamilton Academical in 2009, the player has gone on to play over 100 games for the club. Arsenal are also very interested in the player, valued at around 9 million GBP.
