Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney yesterday denied reports that he has handed in an official transfer request to leave the club. Chelsea are believed to be in pole position to land the striker this summer.
Sir Alex Ferguson told reporters that the striker wants to leave Old Trafford, but Rooney insists no request for a transfer has been made.
The striker is reportedly unhappy at losing his place in the first team during the last few weeks of the season and is pining for a move to London.
The 27-year-old could also be offered as a bargaining chip to secure some of Europe's best talent as a replacement.
