Clichy slams ex Man City boss Mancini

22 May 2013 - 04:21

Gael Clichy delivered a scathing assessment of Roberto Mancini's time as Manchester City manager, telling reporters that the sacking of the manager came as no surprise to him.

  • “The chairman made the decision and you have to respect it,” said Clichy.

“Many people, particularly the fans, would have wanted to give him another go.

“But there are people at the top, above us. Above the manager is the chairman. He made the decision to call a stop to it - you have to accept this.

“We have to take responsibility for this season and yes, probably, it’s because of the manager that we haven’t won anything - because he’s the man in charge.

“He’s the manager and you have to take responsibility. The manager is there to make the choices.

“Of course, when results are good it’s all down to the manager. When the results are not so good, it’s also down to him.

“We have to be aware that he was probably at fault for this, but as players on the pitch we also have to take responsibility and also know that we didn’t perform.

“Whether we played three, four or six at the back. That doesn’t matter, you have to give 100 per cent and sometimes this season we didn’t give everything.”
