Chelsea trigger Cavani release clause?

Chelsea trigger Cavani release clause?

13 June 2013 - 14:54

According to the reports in Italy, Europa League winners Chelsea have reportedly triggered the 26 year old forward’s £53m release clause and ahead of the likes of Real Madrid and Man City, many believe the Uruguayan International is on his way to Stamford Bridge.

  • Chelsea have lacked a goal scoring machine since the departure of Didier Drogba. Fernando Torres has blown hot and cold throughout last season managing just eight goals in 36 Premier League matches last term, while Demba Ba has proved to be something of a letdown since his sensational move from the Magpies during the January transfer window.

Romelu Lukaku had a great season on loan with West Bromwich Albion, but this has not convinced Chelsea’s new manager Jose Mourinho in assigning him as the main man to lead the attack as there is still scope for the signing of a ‘Marquee’ capture to boost the Blues strike-force.

Cavani could be one of Mourinho’s first signings of the summer and probably resolves their main area of weakness, namely the lack of a prolific forward.

Cavani had a great season with Napoli finishing as the top scorer in Serie A, and has managed 104 goals in three seasons at the San Paolo.

With Chelsea’s main target Radamel Falcao opting to join As Monaco, Cavani would be the ideal solution to the lack of a goal machine in the Chelsea squad.
