Tottenham are in pole position to secure the signing of Wigan midfielder James McCarthy. The centre midfielder has been lined up as a replacement for Scott Parker, who has been reportedly told he is free to leave White Hart Lane.

One issue could be the reported&nbsp;&pound;20m that Wigan are after to sell the Republic of Ireland international.<br />

Since Wigan's relegation, a number of the club's best players have indicated that they would be seeking pastures new. McCarthy is without doubt one of the best players at the club and several other teams have also expressed an interest.
