Arsenal to make surprise bid for Gareth Barry?

03 July 2013 - 07:37

Arsenal have been linked with a surprise move for Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry. The 32-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Manuel Pellegrini and Arsene Wenger is considering a transfer bid for the England international.

  • Arsenal handed injury boost on defender ahead of Bournemouth clash
  • Chelsea planning shock move for Man City winger?

  • Barry has just over a year left on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium and there has been some suggestion that the player will be sold this summer as opposed to being allowed to leave on a free transfer next year.

With the Gunners somewhat short in the defensive midfield department, Barry would be an excellent acquisition for the London side. Since selling Alexandre Song, many supporters think that Wenger should bring in one more defensive player.

Barry is earning a reported £100,000 a week at City, and the Gunners could match that with a two year deal for the former Aston Villa star.

According to reports, City are ready to sell Barry for around £3m.
