Liverpool will miss out on a deal for Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan, despite agreeing a reported £21.5 million fee for the attacking midfielder. Borussia Dortmund have also agreed a fee, and the player is currently discussing terms with the German side.
Liverpool's lengthy pursuit of the Shakhtar Donetsk forward appears to have failed as the Ukrainian side agreed to sell their star player to last season's Champions League finalists.
The Anfield club made an initial offer of £14 million for Mkhitaryan last month, but were unable to wrap up a deal quickly enough and Dortmund have made a superior offer that has already been accepted.
Mkhitaryan will fly to Germany next week to discuss personal terms.
