Southampton will open talks with Martin Demichelis, according to reports from Spain. The Argentine centre back has been released from his contract with Malaga, and fellow countryman and Saints' manager Mauricio Pochettino is now set to make an offer to the player.

It had been confirmed today that Malaga released Demichelis from his contract, and coach Bernd Schuster confirmed this: "We would have liked him to continue as he is a respected and important part of this team.<br />

"It seems that our ideas are different and we must accept that. Now we must find a replacement."<br />

Southampton have already signed Dejan Lovren this summer and are also expected to seal a deal for Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama in the coming days.
