Tottenham edge closer to David Villa's signature

08 July 2013 - 13:25

Tottenham Hotspurs have edged a step closer to the capture of the signature of Barcelona's striker David Villa. The player's representatives stated that a deal in priniciple has been agreed between the two parties involved.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The only thing that remains for Spurs to agree with, is the transfer sum for the Spanish International with his current club Barcelona. The Catalan giants are presently depending a fee in the range of  £8 m for their striker.

Spurs are not willing to offer such a high amount for a player who is not at his prime form and this has so far prevented the deal from going ahead.

Villa currently gets a salary package of around £110k a week but is unlikely to see much first team action at the Nou Camp in the upcoming season following the arrival of Brazilian wonderkid Neymar.

The Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas is also keen on the signing of Christian Benteke as he tries to form a new attack partnership. According to reports the North London club are hopeful of signing the Belgian International for a fee of  £20m.
