Internacional Reject Napoli Bid For Damiao

10 July 2013 - 03:47

The sporting director of Internacional, Luis Cesar Souto, has revealed that the club had rejected a €18 million bid from Napoli for striker Leandro Damiao.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • The 23-year-old has strongly been linked with a move to Europe, with Olympique de Marseille and Tottenham being the interested clubs. Tottenham are believed to be leading the race to capture his move this summer, more so after the bid by Napoli has been rejected by Internacional.

Souto has placed a €25 million price-tag on the Brazil international and has confirmed Napoli’s interest in the player. He also insists that they are determined to retain their star striker.

    In is interview, Souto said:

"We had a verbal offer presented by Napoli of €18 million. We do not accept that this is Leandro's true value. What Napoli have offered is very far from what we expected the bid to be.

"We believe he will be part of the Brazil national team for the 2014 World Cup. We have not yet given them a fixed price because it is not in our interest to negotiate for him.

He also said that the club does not need to sell Damiao and they would not be entertaining any offers for him.

"We have just sold Fred and Rodrigo Moledo. We don't have to sell Leandro and we won't be taking an offer for him."
