As Monaco monitoring Chelsea midfielder

13 July 2013 - 00:54

As Monaco have captured the interest in Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel and are willing to offer the Nigerian International a chance to join their Mega-rich Ligue 1 outfit.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The Nigerian has been on the shortlist of Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Trabzonspor, with the former being regarded as top favourites to sign the talented star but now Monaco owner Dmitry Rybolovlev is ready to turn the tables. Galatasaray have had great interest on the player but have not been willing to offer the required fee for the sale which stands at £16m.

As Monaco are ready to swoop for the midfielder who has had a mixed career at the West London Club. Media reports suggest that manager Jose Mourinho is keen to let go of him, but it is not known if the Portuguese would be willing to take such a risk.

However, Mikel had himself added up to the speculation regarding a possible move away from the Blues, stating last week: “I have a four-year contract with Chelsea, but you know, in football you can never guess, one day you are here, the next day you might leave.”
