According to reports, the former Liverpool and Chelsea man has told club directors that he is ready to quit the club, and the 30-year-old wants to move back to England.<br />

Sunderland have been busy in the transfer market so far this summer, having already spent&nbsp;&pound;10 million on new players.<br />

It is understood that manager Di Canio wants to add the Portuguese international Meireles to his squad as he needs a holding midfielder for the new season.
