Liverpool forward Stewart Downing will not leave Anfield this summer. The player had been linked with a move to several other teams, but Brendan Rodgers has placed his trust in the England international.

Despite a regular stream of news stories linking Downing with a summer exit away from Anfield, the player has indicated his long term future remains with the Anfield giants.<br />

&ldquo;I&rsquo;m here to stay,&rdquo; Downing told the club's official website. &ldquo;I'm enjoying it - especially last season. I got a good run in the team. Hopefully that will continue, and I need to work hard.<br />

&ldquo;I want it to continue. It's why I came here - to play in a successful team. I want that to continue as long as possible.&rdquo;
