Liverpool winger Stewart Downing to stay at Anfield

Liverpool forward Stewart Downing will not leave Anfield this summer. The player had been linked with a move to several other teams, but Brendan Rodgers has placed his trust in the England international.

Despite a regular stream of news stories linking Downing with a summer exit away from Anfield, the player has indicated his long term future remains with the Anfield giants.


“I’m here to stay,” Downing told the club's official website. “I'm enjoying it - especially last season. I got a good run in the team. Hopefully that will continue, and I need to work hard.


“I want it to continue. It's why I came here - to play in a successful team. I want that to continue as long as possible.”
