Tito Vilanova Could Leave Barcelona

Tito Vilanova Could Leave Barcelona

19 July 2013 - 20:35

With Barcelona scheduling a press conference for later today, it is being hugely speculated that head coach Tito Vilanova could be stepping down from the coach role of the team.

  • Although, at this point it’s only a speculation but it has been reported that Vilanova could be set for a club exit on health grounds. It is feared that the 44-year-old might have a relapse in his fight with cancer.

Tito has had a long career with the Camp Nou side. He started off assisting Pep Guardiola at Barca B. He continued for four seasons as an assistant to Guardiola at Barcelona from 2008 to 2012, following which he replaced Pep as the head coach of Barcelona last summer.

Vilanova led his team successfully through the La Liga campaign in his sole season as the head coach, helping them to equal the record of Real Madrid’s 100 points in the Primera Division.

Tito’s early retirement could be quite a setback for the La Liga champions as they will have little time to find a suitable replacement for him. It has, however, been reported that the club is planning to make Joan Francesc Ferrer, known as "Rubi" as the interim coach.
