Newcastle United interested in Bafetimbi Gomis

Newcastle United interested in Bafetimbi Gomis

20 July 2013 - 12:27

The Magpies manager Alan Pardew has stated of his desire to acquire the services of Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis according to Sky Sports.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • Pardew responded to the speculation of a move for the French player stating:

“We have expressed an interest in Gomis,”

“We think that he’s a player who has great potential.

“He’s a French international who’s played at the highest level for his club.”

The move for the experienced French International has come about due to Senegalese International Papiss Demba Cisse's denial to wear the club’s new shirt due to sponsorship from Wonga which is a money-lending company, as it is forbidden in his religion.

The Ligue 1 side Lyon are willing to allow the sale of Gomis as they look to adjust with their debts. The presence of many French International compatriots at St.James Park may tempt Gomis to accept the switch to the Magpies.

Gomis has been consistent in scoring goals in the French Ligue 1 as he has reached double figures in his past seven seasons. He finished last season with Lyon with a tally of 16 goals.
