The manager of Newcastle, Alan Pardew, has revealed that Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis is a target for the transfer season. Pardew confirmed that Newcastle are willing to acquire the striker, who has only a year left on his contract.
The Ligue 1 side are prepared to offload the striker after revealing that the possibility of a contract extension had been ruled out.
Last season, Gomis managed to net 16 goals and made 6 assists in 37 games for Lyon, helping his side to the third position in the Ligue 1.
Pardew’s statement comes as a confirmation of Lyon’s claim that Newcastle had approached them for Gomis. He admitted that the French international is a target this summer amidst lingering doubts over the future of Papiss Cisse, who refused to wear the club’s Wonga-sponsors shirt due to religious sentiments.
"We have expressed an interest in Gomis," Pardew toldThe Times.
"We think that he's a player who has great potential.
"He's a French international who's played at the highest level for his club."
