Newcastle would like to make Andre-Pierre Gignac their major signing of the summer after a move for fellow countryman Bafetimbi Gomis appeared to have fallen through. The Marseille striker is also being tracked by Fulham.
Gignac has enjoyed a successful past season at Marseille, scoring 13 Ligue 1 goals in 28 games, after the player worked on his physical condition and appeared to return back to his peak.
Newcastle have a growing contingent of French players at St James' Park, and would like to bring in a new striker to partner Papiss Cisse. Since selling Demba Ba to Chelsea, the Toon Army have so far failed to find a suitable replacement for the Senegalese striker.
According to reports, Gignac is available for around 14 million Euros.
