Celtic hope to keep Gary Hooper despite English interest

22 July 2013 - 16:02

Celtic manager Neil Lennon is hopeful that he can persuade Gary Hooper to stay in Scotland - even though the likes of QPR and Newcastle are considering a move for the player.

  • Chelsea transfer update on Maxence Lacroix
  • England star to join Chelsea in two-year deal
  • Hooper has been consistently linked with a move away from Celtic Park and a move to QPR appears to be the preferred location.

"I have no idea to tell you the truth. But for the time being he is still a Celtic player, he is fit now and a great addition to have for tomorrow night," said Lennon.

"You never say never (Hooper staying). If things aren't agreed or go through then he will be here for at least another year.

"I am hoping to speak to him this afternoon. I haven't had much of a chance to see him in the last week or so.

"I would like to (convince him to stay) but his mind may be elsewhere.
