Guus Hiddink has stepped down as the manager of Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala leading to speculation he could take over from Tito Vilanova at Barcelona.

• Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
• Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
• Hiddink, 66, is widely regarded as one of the finest football managers of his generation and has been in charge at Anzhi since the beginning of the last season. It is yet unascertained as to why the Dutchman resigned from his position, but rumor mills suggest he could take up a bigger managerial offer elsewhere in Europe.
The former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager had only recently signed a one year contract extension at the Russian outfit. The decision, only days after the beginning of the Russian Premier League, has come as a shock to many people across the world.
