Arsenal interested in Benfica winger Salvio

24 July 2013 - 00:35

The Gunners are preparing to make a bid for Benfica winger Eduardo Antonio Salvio, according to reports in the Daily Star. Arsenal's manager Arsene Wenger is eager to land targets as the summer transfer window is moving thick and fast.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • The North London club are considering making a bid worth £30m for the Primeira Liga star. Salvio, who also featured for the Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid, joined Benfica on a season long loan deal in August 2010. The Argentine International went on to notch up 10 goals and 8 assists in 39 appearances for the Portuguese giants before confirming his permanent switch to Benfica last summer. Last term he showed that he's still good enough as he scored 13 goals and provided 10 assist in 51 appearances.

However, Wenger would have to sway away interest from big spenders such as Manchester City to land the player at the Emirates as he looks to make a couple of marquee signings within the end of the transfer window in order to prevent the dishonesty shown from the fans, and ensure a trophy in the cabinet for the Gunners this year.
