Schalke hopeful Draxler will stay for long term

Schalke hopeful Draxler will stay for long term

27 July 2013 - 06:48

Schalke 04 are hoping that star young player Julian Draxler will opt to stay at the club beyond 2014. Recently, the attacking midfielder signed a new contract with the German side until 2018.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Several Premier League clubs have been chasing the midfielder, with Chelsea and Arsenal both keen on a move for the 18-year-old. Schalke have battled valiantly to ensure the youngster will be staying at the Gelsenkirchen for the coming new season.

Schalke's sporting director Horst Heldt is now hopeful that Draxler will reject the interest of Premier League rivals and stay with the German side: "It is definitely possible that Draxler could stay with us for another season.

"He can get better, and of course he is in great demand, but Schalke also have the potential to improve."
