Wolfsburg Are Chasing Bayern Munich Midfielder Luiz Gustavo

30 July 2013 - 17:01

Wolfsburg sporting director, Klaus Alloffs, has confirmed his club is chasing Bayern Munich’s midfielder Luiz Gustavo, who he believes could be an excellent addition to the squad.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • "When the speculations about Bayern having too many midfielders came up, we said that Luiz Gustavo would be a player who'd fit us very well in terms of his quality," Alloffs said.

After the recent signing of Spain’s Thiago Alcantara, it is believed that the Brazil international would struggle even more to secure a first-team spot. The highly competitive midfield at Bayern could urge the 26-year-old to switch to Wolfsburg.

The player is also being tracked by Premier League clubs Arsenal and Chelsea. It has been reported that Jose Mourinho is planning to make a bid in the region of £15 million for the midfielder. Klaus Alloffs also revealed that he has told the Bundesliga champions about his interest in the Brazilian.

Volkswagen CEO, Martin Winterkorn, has asked Wolfsburg to step up their efforts in landing Gustavo to the club, although the player has denied the fact that he is looking to leave the Allianz Arena.

Winterkorn said, "I say, if a player is on the market, efforts should be made to get him”

The 26-year-old joined Bayern from Hoffenheim for €17 million in 2011 and his contract expires in 2015 but he has struggled to secure a regular starting spot for himself in the team.
