Peterborough United have confirmed that they have signed young striker Britt Assombalonga from Watford in a club transfer record deal.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The 20 year old spent the last season at Southend United where he scored 15 goals in 43 appearances.

Peterborough, who found themselves relegated from the Championship last season, have been in search of a new striker following the departure of Dwight Gayle to Premier League newcomers Crystal Palace.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony expressed delight after completing the move of the former Watford striker smashing previous club transfer record held by Tyrone Barnett when he moved from Crawley for £1.1 million.

MacAnthony said on Twitter: "Delighted to finally land our No 1 summer target and smash our transfer record with young Britt Assombalonga signing 4 year deal today!"
