Gomis move to Newcastle doubtful

Gomis move to Newcastle doubtful

07 August 2013 - 11:38

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed that Newcastle's planned move for Bafetimbi Gomis has hit the rocks at the last minute. The Toon Army had hoped to sign the French international but it appears that a deal is dead at the last minute.

  • Chelsea expected to sell striker after loan deal
  • Arsenal defender misses training ahead of Man Utd game

  • Newcastle have been looking all over Europe to find a new striker, seemingly deciding that Gomis would be the best solution for Alan Pardew's side. However, a deal has fallen through at the last minute.

"I’m very disappointed that a deal with Newcastle hasn’t been finalised," said Aulas.

"I’m very pessimistic - it means that someone behind the scenes is pulling the strings. I think a certain number of people are going to reveal their true nature.

"Yesterday [Monday] for that matter I lodged a complaint with the commission for legal affairs over the destabilisation of certain players. Some clubs have made dishonest propositions.

"Although the situation is difficult, we respect the player. We’re one year away from the end of his contract.

"Some excessive demands made Newcastle hesitate, notably concerning compensation for intermediaries."
